How To

How to make the will with a lawyer

A will is an important legal document which determines who gets the property after you die. It also provides instructions on how you will pay your debts and other financial obligations.

A will should be drafted by a solicitor (lawyer) and signed by two witnesses. You have the option to opt not to create a will if everything is to be left to someone else, with no restrictions on how they spend it. But this could lead to problems later on if you can't consent to medical treatment and decide where people live.

The state can appoint trustees to administer your estate until you are buried. This includes paying off all your debts and giving away any property you own. If there is no will, trustees will take over your home and distribute the proceeds to your beneficiaries. They may also charge fees to manage your estate.

There are three main reasons to make a will. First, it protects your loved one from being left without a will. It also ensures that your wishes will be carried out even after your death. It makes it easier for your executor, the person you have appointed to carry out your wishes.

Contact a solicitor first to discuss your options. The cost of a will varies depending on whether you are single, married, or widowed. In addition to writing a will, solicitors can advise you on other matters such as:

  • Make gifts for family members
  • How to choose guardians for children
  • Repayment of loans
  • Manage your affairs even while you're alive
  • Avoid probate
  • How to avoid capital gains tax when selling assets
  • What happens to your home if you die before you sell it
  • Who pays funeral costs

You can either write your will yourself or ask a friend or relative to help. You cannot alter a will that you have signed at the request of another individual.
